How to deactivate a subjective (descriptive) question

Deactivating a question keeps it in your question bank but excludes it from any future exam. The question's history (where it was used, who attempted it) is preserved for audit.

Steps

  1. Log in as admin.
  2. Go to Question Bank → Subjective Questions.
  3. Search or filter to find the question. You can filter by topic, difficulty, or by exam name.
  4. Click the question to open it.
  5. Click Actions → Deactivate (or use the toggle in the question header).
  6. Confirm. The question's status changes from Active to Inactive.

What deactivation does and doesn't do

  • The question will not be picked when you compose new exams.
  • Candidates already partway through an in-progress attempt continue to see the question — their experience is not disturbed.
  • Past results that used the question remain unchanged.
  • You can reactivate later: open the question, click Actions → Reactivate.

To deactivate multiple questions in bulk

  1. Filter to the set you want.
  2. Tick the checkboxes on the left of each question (or tick the header checkbox to select all on the page).
  3. Click Bulk Actions → Deactivate Selected.
  4. Confirm.

To deactivate every question on a specific topic

  1. Filter by topic.
  2. Select all in the filtered view.
  3. Bulk Actions → Deactivate Selected.
