How to deactivate an objective (MCQ) question

Deactivating a question keeps it in your question bank but excludes it from any future exam. The question's history is preserved for audit.

Steps

  1. Log in as admin.
  2. Go to Question Bank → Objective Questions.
  3. Search or filter to find the question.
  4. Click the question to open it.
  5. Click Actions → Deactivate.
  6. Confirm. The question's status changes to Inactive.

What deactivation does

  • The question will not appear in newly created exams.
  • Existing exams that already include the question continue to use it — deactivation does not change those.
  • Past results that used the question remain unchanged.
  • To reactivate, open the question and click Actions → Reactivate.

To deactivate questions in bulk

  1. Filter the question list by topic, subject, or exam.
  2. Tick the checkboxes for the questions you want to remove (or tick the header to select all visible).
  3. Click Bulk Actions → Deactivate Selected.
  4. Confirm.

Removing a question from one specific exam without deactivating

If you only want to remove the question from a single exam (not from the bank), go to Exam → Edit → Questions, find it, and click Remove from Exam. The question remains active in the bank for use elsewhere.
