Import questions from PDF, Word or Excel

For: admins and question authors

If your questions already exist in a question paper or document, you do not need to retype them or fit them into the Excel template. Upload the file and AI extracts the questions, options, question type, marks and images for you to review before saving.

Supported content

• Files: .pdf, .docx (Word) and .xlsx (Excel). Password-protected documents are supported — enter the password when asked.
• Question types: MCQ, True/False, multi-select and subjective questions. Subjective question papers work too.
• Images embedded in the document are extracted and can be attached to questions.

Steps

1. Go to Question Bank > Import Data.
2. Select the object type Import Questions (marked NEW) and click Next.
3. Drag and drop your file (or browse), enter the Document Password if the file is protected, and click Extract Questions.
4. Wait while the document is analysed — this may take 2–3 minutes. Do not close the page.
5. Review Extracted Questions:
   • Check or change the suggested Subject Name. Subjects and topics that do not exist yet are created for you.
   • If there are subjective questions, choose the Answer input for subjective questions: None (text only), Allow Image Upload, Allow Audio Answer Recording, or Allow Video Answer Recording. It applies to every subjective question in the import.
   • Under Extracted Images, use the dropdown under each image to assign it to a question.
   • For each row, edit the question text, type, difficulty, marks, topic, keywords, options, correct option, explanation or model answer as needed. Use the eye icon to preview a question or Preview All for the whole set, and the delete icon to drop a row.
   • Use Select All / Deselect All or the row checkboxes to choose what to import. Download to Excel exports the extracted set if you want to work on it offline.
6. Click Save Question(s). The Import Complete screen shows, separately for objective and subjective questions, how many were sent, imported, duplicates and skipped, plus any row errors.

Tips

• Clean, typed documents extract best. Clearly number questions and label options (A, B, C, D).
• Always review correct answers and marks before saving — AI extraction can misread them.
• Matching is case-insensitive, so "Physics" and "physics" map to the same subject.
