How to import exam / assessment data
For: admins and subject experts
Use Import Data to bulk-load subjects, topics, questions, batches, candidates and users from Excel, or questions from a PDF / Word / Excel document.
What you can import
| Object | Source |
|---|---|
| Subjects, Topics | Excel template |
| Objective Questions, Descriptive Questions | Excel template |
| Batches, Candidates, Institute Users | Excel template |
| Import Questions (NEW) | PDF, Word or Excel document, read by AI — see Import questions from PDF, Word or Excel |
The objects you see depend on your role.
Excel import — 4 steps
- Go to Question Bank > Import Data (also available from Actions on the Objective and Subjective Questions pages).
- Type — select the object you want to import and click Next.
- Upload — click Download the template to get a blank .xlsx with the expected column headers, fill it in, then drop or browse to your file. Only .xlsx workbooks are accepted and only the first sheet is read. Click Next.
- Map — recognised columns are matched automatically. For each column in your file, check the sample value and choose the field to Import as, or Do not import to skip it. Click Verify import.
- Details — review the rows and any errors, then complete the import.
Tips
- Start from the downloaded template so the columns line up.
- Create subjects and topics before importing questions that use them (the document import creates them automatically).
- Decimal marks are not supported in Excel question import.
