How to attempt an online coding test
For: candidates
Follow these steps to attempt a coding exam on Eklavvya. For SQL coding questions, see How to appear for a SQL coding assessment.
Before you start
- Laptop or desktop with the latest Google Chrome — see supported devices and browsers.
- For proctored coding tests, prepare your webcam and microphone: System Check setup.
Step 1 — Log in
- Open the exam link from your institute.
- Enter your username and password (press and hold the eye icon to check the password).
- Complete the CAPTCHA, accept the terms of use and privacy policy, and click Login.
Login problems? See Candidate login problems and error messages.
Step 2 — Confirm exam details
- You see the exam name, programming exam name, start and end date, number of questions and total duration. Click Proceed.
- Check that your name and roll number are correct and click Confirm.
Step 3 — System Check and verification (proctored tests)
- If the test is proctored, complete the System Check. If you already passed it for this exam in the same browser, it is skipped automatically.
- Then complete ID and face verification if your exam uses it.
Step 4 — Read the question
Each coding question has:
- Problem Statement — a detailed description of the task.
- Example — sample input and output.
- Functional Description — details of the function or code you must write.
- Returns — what your code should return after execution.
Step 5 — Write and run your code
- Choose your programming language (if more than one is allowed) before you start typing.
- Type your program in the coding area.
- Click Run under the test cases section. Compile errors are shown — fix them and run again.
- After the test cases run, each is shown as passed or failed.
- Use Clear Response only if you want to remove your answer for the question — you are asked to confirm first.
Changing language overwrites your code
In coding exams with AI code evaluation, switching language shows: Your existing code in the selected language will get overwritten, please confirm. If you confirm, the code you typed is replaced and copy-paste is blocked, so pick your language first and stay with it.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V do nothing and a warning appears | Copy, paste and other shortcuts are blocked on the exam page. Type your code. See exam page tools and blocked keys. |
| Code disappeared after changing language | The language switch overwrites code once you confirm. Retype it in the new language. |
| Compile error | Read the error line shown, fix it and click Run again. |
| Camera / microphone blocked | Follow System Check setup. On a Mac see exams on a MacBook. |
