How to define a common password for candidate login
For some exams — especially walk-in mock tests or proctor-supervised lab sessions — you may want a single shared password for all candidates instead of individual passwords. Each candidate still has a unique candidate ID / roll number, but the password is the same for everyone in that exam.
When to use a common password
- Walk-in lab-based tests where candidates use shared workstations.
- Internal mock tests with low security requirements.
- Public open-to-all exams (e.g. free aptitude self-assessments).
When NOT to use a common password
- High-stakes entrance / certification exams — use unique passwords.
- Remote-proctored exams — combine ID + face verification with unique credentials.
Steps
- Log in as admin.
- Open the exam: Exam → All Exams → click the exam name.
- Go to Exam Settings → Security.
- Enable Common Password.
- Enter the password in the field — recommended at least 8 characters, mixed case + numbers.
- Optional: tick Show password to candidates in their email — the password is included in the exam-link communication.
- Save.
How candidates log in
- Open the exam URL.
- Enter their candidate ID / roll number in the username field.
- Enter the common password you set.
- Click Login and proceed with the system check.
How to share the password with candidates
- Print it on the exam admit card.
- Display it in the exam hall.
- Include it in the exam-link email (tick the option above).
- Communicate verbally before exam start.
To change or disable the common password
- Same screen — Exam Settings → Security.
- Update the password or toggle Common Password off.
- If you turn it off, the system reverts to per-candidate passwords. New passwords are auto-generated and emailed.
- Save.
Common questions
Will candidates be locked out if they share the password?
Each candidate can still only log in once with their own candidate ID, even if the password is shared. The candidate ID is the unique identifier; the password is auth only.
Can I rotate the common password mid-exam?
No — rotation invalidates active sessions. Set the password before the exam starts and keep it stable through the window.
