Remote exam invigilation process

For: institute admins and proctors (invigilators)

With remote invigilation, one proctor monitors candidates in many locations from a single dashboard. This is the full flow, end to end.

Before the exam: admin setup

  1. Create the exam and turn on proctoring on the Proctoring tab: photo capture, AI based proctoring, remote proctoring, audio and screen capture, as needed. See how to do proctoring.
  2. Schedule the exam and assign candidates.
  3. Create proctor users and assign them under Proctor → Assign To Proctor. See define a proctor.

Candidate flow

  1. The candidate opens the exam link from the institute and signs in.
  2. System Check tests the webcam, microphone and, when the exam uses it, screen sharing. See System Check.
  3. The candidate captures an ID image and a face image.
  4. The proctor approves or rejects them from the dashboard, or lets the candidate proceed without ID. See ID and face verification.
  5. The candidate starts the exam.

What the proctor sees

  • A grid of candidate cards with video, time remaining and alert count, sorted by status.
  • Live counts: Candidate Count, Not Yet Authenticated, Pending for Approval, Rejected, Approved, Pause, Terminated.
  • An AI Messages panel with AI alerts (no face, multiple faces, wrong face) when AI proctoring is on.
  • A full-size view of the face video, screen share and ID card for any candidate.

In Proctoring 2.0, video arrives in 30–60 second chunks and chat is delayed by 5–10 seconds. Details: Proctor dashboard guide.

What a proctor can do live

  1. Chat with one candidate.
  2. Broadcast a predefined or custom message to all active candidates, for example a recording warning or unfair-practice warning.
  3. Pause a candidate's exam and resume it.
  4. Reconnect a candidate whose stream dropped.
  5. Terminate the exam. A reason of at least 20 characters is required. Use this for confirmed malpractice.

After the exam: audit

  • Result → Candidate Result: AI Report, Candidate Video, Candidate Audio, Candidate Screen and Proctor Report per candidate. You can mark video clips as malpractice. See AI Report and media review.
  • Proctor → User Identification: authentication images, chat history and proctor comments, with export.
  • Proctor → Proctor Report and Proctor Analytics for proctor-level reporting.

Proctoring media is kept for 30 days. See proctoring data retention.

Common questions

What triggers an AI alert?
No face, multiple faces or a face that doesn't match the candidate. Window switching is counted against the exam's window-switch alert limit. Repeated consecutive AI violations can terminate the exam automatically. The institute sets the threshold.

What if a candidate's camera fails mid-exam?
Pause the candidate and use chat to help them fix camera permissions. Then use Reconnect and resume. Answers are saved.

Does an AI alert mean the candidate cheated?
No. Alerts are for review. Check the recording before you take action.
